Sri Lanka Democratic Party
Sri Lanka Democratic Party mainly focusing the recognition of the pluralistic character of Sri Lankan society including ensuring that the composition of the institutions of the State reflects such character, and arrangements to promote cooperation and mutual trust, confidence and understanding among all the peoples of Sri Lanka.
SLDP beleive a structure of government at the Centre that provides for the full representation and participation of all communities and parts of the country.
- To strive towards the unity and harmony of several ethnic groups and safeguard the sovereignty of Sri Lanka.
- To organize and maintain in Parliament and in the country a political party with a view to gaining power at Presidential, Parliamentary and other elections.
- To put into effect, the principles, policies and programmes of work approved by the party
- Generally, to promote the political education of the people and their political, social, economic and cultural advancement and to promote universal franchise.
- To advance and carry forward the theories of democracy and fundamental human rights of the people of Sri Lanka.
- To recognize and respect the pluralistic identities of the different communities of Sri Lanka and foster and promote friendship, peace and harmony amongst them.
- To work towards the achievement of the socio economic prosperity among the people and ensure their equitable distribution.

- To foster and ensure the independence of the Sinahalese, Tamil, Muslim, Christian and other minority community as independent ethnic entities and fight for their affirmation and enforcement of their legal rights.
- To emancipate the Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim, Christian and other minority community from the inequalities confronting them in the sphere of security, race, religion, politics, education, land and socio-economic conditions.
- To ensure and safeguard the rights of the various communities pertaining to their security, race, religion, politics, education, land and socio-economic conditions.
- To resolve all problems relating to the Sinahalese, Tamils, Muslims, Christians and others and ensure their welfare and equal opportunities.
- To resolve the issues pertaining to the land distribution confronting the Sinahalese, Tamil, Muslim, Christians and other community and secure the due determination and allocations thereof.
- To secure the return and resettlement of those Sinahalese, Tamils, Muslims, Christians and other communities internally displaced and forcibly evicted from their traditional areas of habitation.
- To ensure the political rights and participation of women in decision making process in the country.
- To create a platform to the youth to take part and promote to participate in taking leadership role in political activities.
